I was watching 'Have I got News for You' a couple of days ago. This picture was featured; it's a genuine exam answer from I don't know when or
where. But it made me realise how much I hate triangles. I haven't felt the need to really look at a triangle since I was forced to at school, I
guess for G.C.S.E. maths. But it got me looking back, and realising just how much pointless crap we are taught at school.
I spent years of my life, finding x, working out each side of a triangle when there's fucking right angles and equal sides and all that crap. Why? When in everyday life, is it useful to ever have to work out the sides of a fucking triangle? Ever? And even if you do need to measure the sides of a triangle, why not measure all 3 sides, rather than measuring 2, then thinking it'll be fun to work out the last side using maths. What an absolute load of crap. I cannot believe this stuff is compulsory. What were people thinking when they decided that triangles were a compulsory part of the national curriculum? "They might not be able to work out their own finances, be able to cook for themselves or understand anything at all about national politics. But at least they'll be able to work out the sides of fucking Dairylea." When my grandkids ask me what I did in my youth, at least I can tell them I worked out the sides of an equilateral fucking triangle. They'll love that story with a Worther's Original.
And looking back, it's the same with most of the rest of the national curriculum. English literature for fucks sake. What is the point in that? I've barely read a full book in my life. Last one I can recall was a Goosebumps book when I was about 9. Yet I'm happily graduating from university. And what is all this bollocks about 'what the author is trying to show metaphrocally here is...' He's really not. He just wrote the first thing that came into his head. Just like I'm doing now. Take this article to an English literature teacher and I'm sure they'll be able to make up some crap like, 'I'm referring to triangles so much becuase it demonstrates the 3 points of emotion that I'm feeling in my life right now, or something stupid. And just like triangle, how the hell is fiction going to help me in my life. It's called fiction because it's not real. Why not spend the time educating kids about things that will actually affect them? Politics, business, global warming? Wait, I do remember having 1 hour worth of teaching on global warming when I was 11. That really stuck. It's a joke when you look back at it. You're born with no choice but to learn all this useless crap. But why? Fucking triangles never helped anyone.
